I think that users e-mail addresses should be shown in user profiles because when you use the send an e-mail link you cannot send file attachments Or the send an e-mail link should be a send mail link so the link opens in your default e-mail programme.
I don't agree. i like it the way it is. If you send an email using the form on the zone and the user reply then you can send attachments and anything you like because you will see the address. But if they don't want to give you their address they can just ignore the email. If email addresses were displayed people would have the danger of getting spam messages.
i agree with post 2 on this matter
agree with posts 2 and 3
agree with posts 2, 3 and 4. lol
No, sorry I don't agree with you other users.
Fortunately you are the only one who doesn't agree and i am greatful that the admins didn't make it the way you wanted because nobody wants to get spam. If you mate friends and you want to email them i am sure they can give you their emails. But if you want to peek rundom people to email nobody would like that.
I agree with the majority.
So do I.
apes, why don't you agree? please explain. nicos has explained his reasons for disagreeing with your position, so please explain your reasons for holding your views. then maybe we can discuss this? btw, I agree with the way it is at the moment.
I agree with the rest.
If people want to give out there e-mail, MSN address, etc. they can put it in their profiles. I think not displaying it is for your own safety.
I agree with libralady
I agree with the following posts: 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13.
I would not like my email address displayed for everyone to see.
I agree with post 15. :)
Ok, I get it now, but I still want this new feature to be created, maybe not the e-mail address in the profile, but a sendmail link so that the link opens in your default e-mail programme.
i really don't think it's going to happen, not everyone wants to give there addresses out....so, even if someone gave there addreass out and someone was not loged in, they could email them spam messages....oh, hang on....why the hell am i bothering with this?
Or, in the change my account settings of the site, there should be a checkbox called display e-mail address in my profile, that way if people don't want there e-mail addresses displayed, they don't have to, but they can if they want to.
Send mail links can and are used every day for spam purposes. That's why on my site while I use send mail links I much prefer using email forms and my send mail links are at least simi protected with a java script. So, I agree with the rest, no email address displaying and please...No send mail links. Also, with a send mail link you can open your client with the link and still get the address, and personally, I don't want everyone having my email address. Oh, BTW, the send mail links on my site are business, not personal...
Or, maybe there could be a link in the send an e-mail form to send file attachments, it would open in a standard insert file attachments dialogue like in hotmail.
Or just add that option into the form; like this...Your form would include Subject, Message, File Attachment. However, if this is done I think each user should have the option of not allowing file attachments. Some people won't like just anyone being able to send an attachment...However, I do have a question for you Apes...Why can't you simply email someone, tell them what you have to send them and let them respond to you if they're interested? I know this is the longer route, but I think this is the route that would best satisfy the individuals getting e-mail from you or anyone else. If the person wants you to send them something that you've been talking about they can give you their e-mail address themselves before the conversation has ended. I'm just curious on your reasons for wanting to send file attachments so badly. I personally; if the idea I've stated here were put into effect, would turn off the option of getting file attachments in this way. Because I only want things sent to me if I know what it is, who is sending it, and why they're sending it...
wow what a wasted topic
I don't see what's wrong with the system they have now. if you want someone's email address why not just ask them and if they don't want to give it then you should respect that fact.
you've got to be kidding me! Some of us do not want our e-mail addresses being displayed. also, since the mijority does not want it I doubt your checkbox option will be put into effect either. I do not want people sending me e-mail attachments. If I want something, or if someone is gonna send me something, they can do it once I give them my e-mail address. Also, if I wanna send stuff, I use the file shareing option in Windows Live Messenger. John
Oy, some people just don't get the point, do they? *sighs
Here's a thought...
If someone wants a file attachment from you, they'll give you a valid email address to which you can then send said file.
I completely agree with the majority. Therefore, I am in favor of the status quo on this one. Besides, someone with the proper knowledge of HTML could look at a page's source and get the e-mail address from there without having to open the link.
Okay, if they want, they could just write there e-mail address in the messenger addresses edit field when editing their profile. Do you think that's a good idea?
That's a choice if people want to fill that out or not.
I personally don't like spam so I say it's fine the way it is.
hey apes, here's a thought, ask whoever the hell it is for their email address?
Hi, so thought i'd add my 2 sents to this. Why not just add it into your profile description? Here's an example:
Hi! I'm blabla, if you wish to e-mail me click this wonderfull link (for the example purpice, this link is invalid, don't send to it):
E-mail me!
Not everyone knows html or want to learn it. I say it takes a special person to learn html.
Ok, if linking to the email is the only thing you want, here's how to do it (in code, so you don't have to look at the source of the page, example goes below, sorry if this does not work, but I think it should.).
<a href="mailto:whatever@example.com">Yea! E-mail me.</a>
Replace the stuff between the quotes with the address, and the stuff after the second grader sign with the text of the link. Don't touch anything else though, unless you know html of course.
Did that come out right? We'll see.
Hth, Malthe.
fake email
How do you show the code because I could never figure out how.
I just used the coresponding numbers of the characters, unfortunately I think they will be parsed as such, you can look at the source of this board page though in notepad.
agree with pippy....just ask for the address
